William
Cruz Speaks at Bausch & Lomb
Bausch & Lomb and the Latino Employee Network were pleased
to welcome and host William Cruz September 27. Cruz is a nationally
known speaker who addressed more than 100 employees including
CEO, Ron Zarrella. Mr. Cruz's topic was "Communicating
Across Cultures" and he provided examples of communication
differences and how to avoid misperceptions and misunderstanding.
Did
you know, that a smile means different things to different
people? For example, in Chinese and Japanese culture it may
be used to hide displeasure. While for Latinos it may be a
substitute for many verbal expressions such as "Thank
you," "Hi, How are you?" For Anglos, it is
reserved for friendly circles, but rarely used in serious
situations like teaching, learning and work. October 2002
