The American Red Cross Greater Rochester Chapter
Rochester became the second Red Cross Chapter in the United States October 3, 1881. Nearby Dansville, New York was the site of the first Red Cross Society, an organization that has grown to include 3,700 chapters nationwide. Today, the Greater Rochester Red Cross certifies about 50,000 people each year in life-saving programs such as CPR, Water Safety, and First Aid. With a thousand active volunteers, their dedication keeps the Red Cross working for the community 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Volunteers give their time working with youth in the community; or helping parents-at-risk for abuse and/or neglect learn how to cope with the stresses at home, or working on the food line to prepare meals to the homebound.

Health & Safety Services is one of the largest educational providers in the country. They are always looking for ways to improve safety, for example, by offering new courses like how to use the AED (automated external defibrillator) technique with CPR. Every day they are at your place of work, in schools, and neighborhood centers teaching people how to be safe. And every day they help save lives.
