Dr. Praveen Tyle Named Sr. VP - Research & Development and Chief Scientific Officer for B&L
Ronald L. Zarrella, chairman and CEO, announces that Praveen Tyle, Ph.D., has joined Bausch & Lomb as senior vice president Research & Development and chief scientific officer. Praveen reports to Ron and is a corporate officer.

The Engineering organization now will be part of Global Supply Chain instead of Research & Development.

Praveen is based at the R&D facility in Rochester and succeeds Gary M. Aron, who announced in April his plans to retire. Gary has agreed to stay on through a period of transition.

"Dr. Tyle brings to Bausch & Lomb a record of success in moving products from the laboratory to the market," said Ron. "Perhaps equally important is his extensive experience in drug development, an area of key strategic focus for our Company. We're confident he'll provide strong scientific leadership as the Company significantly increases its commitment to R&D, and that he will continue to build the organizational excellence that Gary Aron has advanced during his tenure here."

Praveen has approximately 20 years of development experience and has served in leadership positions in pharmaceutical development; clinical operations; regulatory affairs; project management; technology transfer; manufacturing; quality; and life cycle management.

He joins Bausch & Lomb from Biovail Corporation where he served since 2003 as group vice president - pharmaceutical sciences and manufacturing. Prior to that, he spent nearly four years at Pharmacia Corporation, where he most recently was vice president and global head - pharmaceutical sciences.

Praveen began his professional career as a formulations research chemist in drug delivery research with American Cynamid Company (now Wyeth), moving on to executive leadership and scientific positions with Sandoz Pharmaceuticals (now Novartis), Agouron Pharmaceuticals (now Pfizer) and Aronex Pharmaceuticals (now Antigenics). In 1999, Praveen was named vice president - pharmaceutical sciences, .S. Pharmacia & Upjohn (now Pfizer).

Praveen currently holds academic appointments as an adjunct professor of Pharmacy at the University of Rhode Island and at the University of Houston, Texas.

Praveen is editor of seven books about drug development, holds several patents and is the author of more than 120 technical and scientific papers and presentations.

He received a Ph.D. degree in Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Chemistry from Ohio State University in 1984 and a bachelor of Pharmacy degree from the Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University, India, in 1980.

He is a member of the Council of Healthcare Advisors, the advisory board of Oakland University Center for Biomedical Research, and is a scientific advisor to CB Health Ventures of Boston and Epimmune, Inc., of San Diego. He also serves on the boards of directors of Orient Europharma Co. Ltd., Taiwan, and Interpath Pharmaceuticals, Houston.
