Kodak
Named to Working Mother Magazine's 100 Best Companies for
Working Mothers
Working Mother magazine again named Eastman Kodak Company
to its list of 100 Best Companies for Working Mothers, marking
the 14th straight year Kodak has been named to the publication's
list.
"We
are honored to be named to Working Mother's list of
100 Best Companies for Working Mothers," said Michael
P. Morley, Chief Administrative Officer and executive vice
president. "Kodak has long been an advocate of helping
employees balance the needs of their family lives and work
lives."
The
magazine's October 2003 coverage focuses on the experience
of Barbara Galante, an employee in Kodak's Global Diversity
Office, and how her organization enabled her to modify her
work schedule to accommodate her family situation.
The
magazine wrote, in part: "Galante knew that she couldn't
continue working four ten-hour days per week after the birth
of her second child in 2001. Galante, who handles affirmative
action planning and compliance at Eastman Kodak (Company),
approached her supervisor, who asked her to devise a plan
that would work for Galante and her team. Galante now works
a full week but telecommutes Mondays and Fridays, using a
laptop and a phone line provided by Kodak. She credits her
supervisor for understanding her staff's personal as well
as professional needs. "She's very demanding and goal-oriented,
but because of the balance she provides us, you're willing
to go that extra mile," Galante says."
Working
Mother also lauded Kodak's use of flex schedule options,
including working a compressed week, job-share arrangements,
and telecommuting. New mothers at Kodak receive their full
pay during standard short-term disability and can take up
to an additional 11 weeks of unpaid time off. New dads and
those new parents who adopt are eligible for 17 weeks of unpaid
job-guaranteed leave.
The
complete list of the 100 Best Companies for Working Mothers
appears in the October issue of Working Mother (and
at www.workingmother.com).
Working Mother will honor the companies at a gala awards
ceremony at the 100 Best Companies WorkLife Congress in New
York September 29-October 1 (www.worklifecongress.com).
To
be named to the 100 Best Companies for Working Mother's
list, firms of any size and in any industry (except those
in the business of providing work/life or child-care services)
complete a comprehensive application, including questions
about a company's culture, employee population and policies
on work/life and women's advancement. With the help of industrial
research firm eXpert Survey Systems, applications are validated
and scored on more than 500 points of information, including
the number of work/life programs offered, the employee usage
of such programs and the representation of women throughout
the company. This year, Working Mother gave particular
weight to three issues: flexible scheduling, advancement of
women and child-care options.
