Duck
Race Held to End Racism
Community Wide Dialogue (CWD) (a program of the InterReligious
Council of CNY) and Presenting Sponsor KeyBank hosted
their first ever Duck Race to End Racism Saturday, June
28th, 2003. Thousands of supporters cheered on thousands
of multicolor plastic ducks launched down Onondaga Creek
to the Syracuse Inner Harbor finish line for great prizes.
Third
Graders from the Syracuse area raced ducks decorated
by their classes. They also had a chance to win diversity
curriculum materials for their school.
Corporate
Sponsors presented a co-sponsoring community organization
with a $1000 contribution to support their work to end
racism.
Funds
raised by the Duck Race help the "Community Wide
Dialogue to End Racism, Improve Race Relations, and
Begin Racial Healing" provide facilitators and
materials for diverse groups of 12 to 15 people to discuss
their individual experience of race and difference in
a supportive environment. Dialogue Circles are available
to individuals, organizations, and companies, and will
support CWD's program to bring city and suburban school
classes together to learn about and experience each
other.
Money
raised will also support the work of co-sponsoring community
organizations to end racism.
