First
Phase of Study on African American Health Status is
Completed
The
Finger Lakes Health Systems Agency (FLHSA) has completed
the first phase of a study it is conducting to improve
the overall health and reduce disparity in health status
of the Rochester area African American community.
FLHSA
is a health planning organization whose mission is to
promote the delivery of accessible, affordable health
care services. It was awarded a grant from the federal
Office of Minority Health to conduct the study.
A
Task Force, including health care providers and consumers,
was assembled and met for the first time in September
2001. In the first year, their objective was to assemble
information on the health of African Americans in the
Rochester area and to report it to the community. The
second phase of the Task Force's work (May 2003 - April
2004) will prioritize the recommendations contained
in the report and identify community partners to implement
the recommendations. Future years will see efforts to
improve the community's health status.
