Aetna Is Founding Partner Of Hispanic Research Organization

Aetna is a founding partner of the newly created research arm of the Hispanic Association on Corporate Responsibility (HACR), a leading Hispanic advocacy organization. Called the HACR Research Institute, the organization will perform research on Hispanic inclusion in corporate America. Consumer products company Altria is the other partner.

The institute is devoted to objective research, analysis and publication focused on the Hispanic community and corporate America. It focuses its research in the areas of workforce, employment, procurement, philanthropy, corporate governance, Hispanic economics and national demographics. The goals of the Institute's activities are to offer insights into the power of Hispanic inclusion, assess current Hispanic affairs and stimulate discussion on Hispanic inclusion in corporations.

"Aetna has a long-term commitment to diversity," said Marilda Gándara, president of the Aetna Foundation," and our goal is to integrate our diversity initiatives into all aspects of how we do business, including engaging a workforce that meets the needs of the changing marketplace. With Latinos playing an ever-increasing role in the U.S., we continue to build and sustain external relationships to promote Latino market growth and attract Latino talent. Our involvement with HACR is a good example of our efforts. This focus is not only good for business, it's the right thing to do and makes me proud to be a 26-year employee of Aetna."
"Becoming a founding partner of the Institute adds a new dimension to our relationship with HACR" said Raymond Arroyo, head of Aetna's Office of Diversity. "It provides Aetna with an excellent opportunity to deepen and strengthen its commitment to this organization, and to the important work it is doing to ensure that there is an equitable participation of the Hispanic community in corporate America. Aetna gains from this relationship by being better able to understand the Hispanic community and how to meet their health care needs in a culturally sensitive manner."

Aetna established a formal business relationship with Washington-based HACR last fall. It is a coalition of the 11 top Hispanic community-based organizations in the United States . Its mission is to ensure the inclusion of Hispanics in corporate America at a level commensurate with their economic contributions.
