Aetna Participates in Hispanic Family Wellness Day
By Christine Robinson

In support of Aetna's devotion to the reduction of ethnic and racial disparities impacting health care outcomes, a community grant was given to Nazareth College, in Rochester, NY, to staff a clinical training site for their nursing students, which will provide health screenings and wellness education to an elderly Latino population served by Centre D'Oro, a program run by the Ibero-American Action League.

"The Hispanic Wellness Clinic" will enhance the cultural competency of Nazareth's nursing students, while reducing health disparities in the Rochester Hispanic community.

A grand opening for the Hispanic Wellness Clinic took place on April 23, 2004 and Aetna staff, in addition to the Nazareth nursing students participated in the event. Local community service organizations, such as the American Cancer Society, the Diabetes Association and the Lupus Foundation provided materials in Spanish and health screenings including bone density, diabetic foot care and blood pressure were performed. There were adult and children's activities with a health focus as well as Latino music and refreshments.
