YMCA Celebrates Minority Achievers Program
The YMCA of Greater Rochester celebrated the 11th Annual Minority Achievers Program Awards & Scholarship Banquet on Thursday, March 25, 2004. The keynote speaker for the event was former East High School and Syracuse University football star Roland Williams, who recently signed with the Oakland Raiders.

In addition to Mr. Williams' moving and inspiring speech, the evening featured recognitions of local adult achievers and graduating seniors, as well as scholarship awards from the YMCA and the event's lead sponsor, JPMorgan Chase. Elizabeth Rossi of John Marshall High School received the JPMorgan Chase Minority Achievers Scholarship Award, and Chaquita Pringle of Nazareth Academy received the YMCA Minority Achievers Youth of the Year Award.

The YMCA Minority Achievers Program reaches out to urban, at-risk youths to encourage them to seek higher academic and career ideals and connects them with successful adults from our community who serve as role models and mentors. Through tutoring, mentoring, personal counseling and workplace and college tours, adults who have excelled in their chosen career help raise the academic standards of our youth, expose students to diverse career options and inspire them to set and reach for their goals.
