Are you ready for the workforce of tomorrow?  Consider following trends?

First, despite the current economic situation, talent will become increasingly difficult to find. A number of different trends contribute to this:  retiring boomers, the tendency of younger worker to change jobs more frequently, and a shortfall of workers in several skilled labor sectors.

Second, the number of people working with a disability will increase.  Currently, about one-in-five Americans has a disability.  This number is expected to rise as the average age of our population increases, as improved treatments and assistive technologies enable more people to work with a disability and as more veterans with disabilities re-enter the workforce.

Third, despite the passing of the Americans with Disabilities Act, many qualified people with disabilities who want to work and have the qualifications to work are unable to find jobs.  Yet, research indicates that job performance and attendance rates of employees with disabilities are the same as other employees.

Fourth, the roughly 54 million people with disabilities in America represent the largest diversity population in our country today.  Yet, they are often left out of diversity initiatives. This limits the success of employers to get the talent they need and to reach out to this significant segment of their customer-base.

Given these trends, putting into place organizational practices to fully engage the talents of qualified people with disabilities is not just a “nice to do.”  It is becoming a business imperative--a winning scenario for both employers and people with disabilities.  Yet, many employers continue to struggle with these issues.

Clearly, a new approach is needed—an approach that goes beyond providing information about disability law and moves toward building powerful disability inclusiveness strategies that contribute to competitive advantage and organizational success.

Designed for business leaders, employers, human resource professionals, disability service providers, educators and people with disabilities, this program aims to enhance disability inclusiveness in the workplace with strategies that bring about competitive advantage, organizational effectiveness and opportunities to access an untapped talent pool.

Funded by a New York Makes Work Pay Medicaid Infrastructure Grant (MIG) from the US DHHS, this program is offered free of charge.  Lunch is included in the program. The program has three elements:

1.  The half day interactive employer forum includes:
·      An overview of workforce and demographic trends
·      Video clip analysis
·      A look at disability in the workplace
·      A simulation activity examining real-life dilemmas
·      An exploration of real strategies for disability inclusive workplaces
·      An opportunity to re-invigorate diversity efforts
·      A networking lunch

2.  Optional accredited on-line tutorials (for employers and for disability service providers) to further explore issues raised in the forum

3.  An opportunity for follow-along services

These programs are accredited by HRCI (SHRM) for strategic credits and by CRCC.
